Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 - We don't really like to talk about money, but...

N.B.
I don't know if Miss Doodle has got the numbers right here (I mean the conversion from square meters to square feet) but you get a glimpse of what it means to be a fashion addict in Paris:)

Oh Miss Doodle, the budget for anyone in the arts is a wild ride, to be sure! The good news is work in design is a bit better than work in fine arts. It is sad...so sad since a focus is not on the arts, as well.

But I get the feeling times are changing...do you have that feeling? I keep thinking we are going to make some changes in society...and that would be cool for us.

I think you did well with some of the math translations...but I don't know that much, either. Tee Hee

Great drawings and a great concept to share, too.

Thank You

Well Miss Doodle. I can understand your consternation. Yet we love to have special treats and pleasures. Balancing money and the budget with pleasures is tricky. I often gave up the necessities so I might indulge in books, clothes (almost always from a thrift store) and so on. Oh, glad to see kitty has a treat too. Be well, Suki

Kim, I don't know if times are changing, your words give me courage:)
In fact, what drives me mad is that in magazines they show you these articles which cost a fortune as if it were things that only cost a nickle and a dime. What can you possibly do with that bag at over 700 dollars? Well, whatever, I'm ranting again:)
I shouldn't be living here if I go on ranting like that, LOL, Paris, the city of fashion blablabla:):)

Suki:) yes, I admit, for me it has been the same, I mean I gave up the necessities too to indulge in (mainly) art material, books and shoes (I loved shoes) and clothes. Today I don't buy clothes so much anymore and wear always the same shoes cause they are comfortable, but I still spend my money on books and art material.
I don't know how I would have managed things had I had children, do you automatically become a wiser person and spend less money? Probably you do. With cats it's easier, isn't it?

Ah money the bain of existence. Who said that? So true. Love these drawings and what they represent. For Fathers day coming up this sunday they have been advertising what to get for Dad and everything has been soooooooo expensive I dont know who can afford them right now with the economy the way it is. yikes. How about doing something hand made from the heart? Like a tie. LOL

Oh Andrea...I do know what you mean. I usually just stay away from those magazines, though. It is always like that, though. The artist/designer gets not enough to pay the rent, but design things for those who could pay everyone's rent. The workers in the field can hardly put food on the table, but the corporation selling the food makes tons. It seems as though people who "DO" don't make a great deal of money, but the people who exploit those who "DO" can talk their way into lots of the stuff!

I hear you, my friend!

Hi Miss Doodle! I so know what you mean. You should watch "Sex and the City". You remind me of those girls. I always wondered how Carrie could afford all those expensive clothes and SHOES and a NY apartment on a columnist's salary.

Things in the city are so much more expensive than rural life. I mused about this very thing on my "Friday, May 30th" blog.

if it's anything like being a young writer and being dirt poor... I know exactly what you mean... I haven't bought any new clothes in years... and it's pretty bad that i have to calculate paper and pens into my monthly budget ahead of things like food and rent... oh dear...

but you know what my friend... i wouldn't change my life and the way i see the world for all the money you could fit in a dumpster... if I wasn't hungry I wouldn't listen as well... I would only hear...

Cris:)A Handmade from the heart tie, now that sounds great!:) You know it is the same thing here, the publicity wants people to spend more money on things so that the economy gets a kick out of if but at the same time things get more expensive every day...

Kim, this is well said, I so agree with you. And I usually stay away from the magazines too, I buy some interior design magazines to keep myself informed about hometextile trends, but thats it. Sometimes I buy the ELLE for fun, like this time where it was a special edition in hommage to Yves Saint Laurent, which I found very interesting, a part from the cover line: YSL liberated the women...
what a nonsense:)
love to you and thanks for your always interesting comments,
Andrea

Thanks Katie Jane, for your comment:) I never watch Sex and the City, a lot of people here in France watch it and they went berserk the other day when Sara Jessica Parker visited Paris for the promotion of the movie...
And you are so right, the city life and it's daily necessities is so much more expensive...
have a wonderful day
Andrea

Hopper, thanks for commenting, it is a beautiful comment, and I like the way you happily maintain your choice, throughout all difficulties. I guess it cannot not be done otherwise, I mean artists' creation.

What a materialistic world we live in. It takes dedication to maintain focus on what's really important. It is very hard to raise children in this materialistic society. Sabrina is like you, Andrea - she'd rather have a new set of paints or crayons of some type, than a new pair of shoes. Amen!
P.S. Ms. Doodle is lovely in all of her colorful dresses!

Oh the life of an Artist on a budget. What a struggle for someone as Fashionable as you Miss Doodle? What to do? From someone who considers dressed up clean jeans I think my viewpoint is somewhat abstract. But keep the long flowing skits that add so much motion and emotion, the maillot [swimsuit?] and perhaps black converse are less expensive? Of course keep the Chocolate what else does one need in the summer? Fun images as always. enjoy pjc

Cathie, thanks for you insightful comment, and I'm amused but not at all astonished to hear that about Sabrina:) I love that girl (and you:)

Peter:) thanks for your elegant comment of what your concept of dressed up means:) and yes, good idea, we'll keep the long and swinging skirts (very important cause the biggest paintable surface of Miss Doodle)

oh Miss Doodle you've got a very expensive way of expressing your moods and thoughts... it's as if you should pay money for each word of your poem you'd like to write...

and not expressing ourselves is like commiting suiside gradually...
:(
all of us have got the same problem in a different form...
crows need no money to buy the 'words' they want to use ...
they just need some gardens to crow out their words ... and you know, these days gardens are being replaced with large malls and shopping centers..
:D

Human Being, you are so right, we are just lucky to have our garden here and come together to look at each other's poems, drawings, paintings, stories:)
love and have a wonderful day
